Introduction

Welcome to the documentation for the Medeek Electrical extension. Medeek Electrical is a SketchUp Extension that provides a simple interface for creating accurate 2D and 3D electrical geometry within SketchUp. This extension utilizes the SketchUp Ruby API programming interface and is compatible with the latest SketchUp releases (SketchUp Make 2017 64-bit and SketchUp Pro 2023 64-bit) as well as previous versions (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022).

What Can You Do with Medeek Electrical

 North American Standard

Currently, the extension allows the creation of the following electrical elements or fixtures per the North American Standard (NEMA):

Switches (Toggle, Decora) [15A]:

Outlets (Standard, Decora) [15A, 20A]: 240V Outlets (Standard) [2-gang box]: Low Voltage Outlets (QuickPort) [1-gang = 1,2,3,4,6 ports, 2-gang = 8,12 ports]: Load Centers (Service Panels w/ Breakers): Light Fixtures (Surface - Wall and Ceiling Mount): Safety Devices (Surface - Wall and Ceiling Mount): Heaters (Wall and Garage): Vents (Ceiling Mount): Low Voltage Panels (Structured Media Centers): Misc. Fixtures (Wall Mount): Floor Outlets (Ceiling and Floor Mount):
 British Standard

The extension also allows the creation of the following electrical elements or fixtures per the British Standard (BS):

Switches (MK Logic Plus) [10A, 20A]: Outlets (MK Logic Plus) [13A]:
Estimating: Legend: Wiring:
All electrical types are drawn/designed utilizing industry standard practices. Additional electrical standards, styles and types are in the process of being added on a weekly basis.

The extension allows the user to create electrical elements and fixtures and will allow editing (currently available for switches only) of each component in future releases.

Electrical geometry is embedded within an existing wall panel (created with the Medeek Wall extension) or a wall "group". As such, the Medeek Electrical extension is not dependent on the Medeek Wall extension and can be used with any wall, roof, floor or ceiling geometry. The extension can now also be utilized with John Brock's Framer plugin.

Custom materials can be enabled in the global settings which allow customization of material/color of wall plates and various electrical elements.

Advanced electrical options allows for the rotation of certain elements such as switches, outlets or load centers. The default parameters for each of these advanced options can be specificed with the global settings.

With Medeek Electrical, you can accurately depict typical residential electrical work and better validate your architectural models.

Audience

This document is intended for electricians, architects, engineers, designers and homeowners who are using SketchUp as their primary 2D and 3D design tool. It provides a basic introduction to using the extension and reference material on the available parameters/options for its use.

License and Limits of Use

Medeek Electrical is a proprietary softare developed for use with the SketchUp 3D modeling program. There are currently no limits in its use for both personal and commercial applications.

Design Parameters - Electrical Geometry

The following items are typical electrical design parameters than can be modified by the user to define the electrical geometry during the creation process (Switch):

Optional metadata: Additional parameters and options are available for outlets, low voltage outlets, load centers, and light fixtures.
